Help restore the historic windows of the Hankamer-Fleming Chapel.
For generations, the
Hankamer-Fleming Chapel has been a cherished part of the Texas Baptist Children's Home campus, providing a place for worship, reflection, and special gatherings. Over time, weather and age have taken a toll on the chapel’s stained-glass windows and surrounding areas, causing damage that now requires restoration.
Through this campaign, we are raising funds to
restore these historic features, repair water damage, and preserve the chapel for future generations. Your support will help ensure that this beloved landmark continues to serve children, families, alumni, and visitors for years to come.
First milestone: $34,000 restores the first two windows at $17,000 each.

The Story Behind the Stained Glass
The chapel's 17 stained glass windows tell a story of God's love for children. In the main room, five windows on the west side mark milestones in Jesus' life, and five on the east side each show a child in the Bible who was raised by someone other than his parents. Behind the altar, a large three-pane window shows Jesus welcoming the little children into his open arms, and four more windows greet visitors before they enter the main room. Each window is a reminder that God loves children and welcomes anyone with pain and suffering.

Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him. 46 After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. 47 Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.”

Jesus with the Children
Centerpiece
E.P. West Bible Class – Second Baptist Church – Judge T.M. Kennerly, Teacher – Houston, TX
The scene behind the altar represents Jesus, saying: "Let the little children come to me..." (Matthew 19:14, Mark 10:14, Luke 18:16). Notice the modern-day children putting down their baseball, bat, and doll and approaching Jesus.
“13 People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.' 16 And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.”

Joseph
Child Raised by Someone Other Than His Parents 2 of 5
Gift of Eudora Walsh – Fort Worth, TX
“3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate robe for him. 4 When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him. 5 Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. 6 He said to them, 'Listen to this dream I had: 7 We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.'”

Gift of William Lloyd Walsh – Fort Worth, TX
“5 Then Pharaoh's daughter went down to the Nile to bathe, and her attendants were walking along the riverbank. She saw the basket among the reeds and sent her female slave to get it. 6 She opened it and saw the baby. He was crying, and she felt sorry for him. 'This is one of the Hebrew babies,' she said. 7 Then his sister asked Pharaoh's daughter, 'Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?' 8 'Yes, go,' she answered. So the girl went and got the baby's mother. 9 Pharaoh's daughter said to her, 'Take this baby and nurse him for me, and I will pay you.' So the woman took the baby and nursed him. 10 When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, 'I drew him out of the water.'”

Samuel
Child Raised by Someone Other Than His Parents 4 of 5
Gift of F. Howard Walsh – Fort Worth, TX
“3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the house of the Lord, where the ark of God was. 4 Then the Lord called Samuel. Samuel answered, 'Here I am.' 5 And he ran to Eli and said, 'Here I am; you called me.' But Eli said, 'I did not call; go back and lie down.' So he went and lay down. 6 Again the Lord called, 'Samuel!' And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am; you called me.' 'My son,' Eli said, 'I did not call; go back and lie down.' 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord: The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him. 8 A third time the Lord called, 'Samuel!' And Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am; you called me.' Then Eli realized that the Lord was calling the boy. 9 So Eli told Samuel, 'Go and lie down, and if he calls you, say, 'Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.' ' So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, 'Samuel! Samuel!' Then Samuel said, 'Speak, for your servant is listening.'”

The Descending Dove
“A white dove, of conventional design, with three rayed nimbus, is the most appropriate traditional symbol of the Holy Spirit. Luke 3.21–22: 'Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form, as a dove, and a voice came from heaven, 'Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.' (Also Matthew 3.16; Mark 1.10; John 1.32).”
